Big long blog

SO it has been a really long time since I have written anything. We have just been busy. (and school is over for ryland so I am not on the computer everyday) We have friends who have moved, are moving, and will be moving, so we are trying to be a blessing to them by helping when needed. All of that mixed with playdates, nice weather, yard work, cleaning, library time, volunteering, ect... means no time to blog. This video is from the Kids Praise concert. It was so sweet to see them singing songs about Jesus. They sang 2 songs and for the 2nd song they got to hold a whale (collin) and a seahorse (ryland). Rylands strap that held it on broke, so instead of holding it with his hand, he held it with his chin. I am sure they told him not to touch it and he was trying to obey. We also got to take them home....Hooray. Collin got up on the stage and found us in the crowd and then waved and said "Hi mom, hi dad!" a couple dozen times. It was funny. He was so happy to be up there. He loves being a big kid. Tim is in the middle of the boys with their animal signs

We just had their well-baby/annual check ups today. The doctor said they are in excellent health and they are doing great. I always love hearing it. Too bad Ryland forgot his shoes. Yep, excellent parenting skills right there. Going to the dr with out shoes. But I have told him his shoes are his responsibility. He is going on 6 and should be able to remember when we get in the car, shoes have to be on his feet. He said he would remember from now on. They also got their eyes checked. Ryland went first and missed one shape. Next Collin went and he got the shape (a tea cup-I couldn't tell from where I was) Ryland missed and was so happy! Ryland cheered him on and then they had to go closer to study it. They both have 20/20 so they didn't get their vision from their parents. And Collin is 4 pounds away from being the same weight as Ryland. He is a solid boy.

My sister and I had a great weekend all by ourselves at the Homeschooling convention in Dallas. I found brand new curriculum for Ryland and I am so excited to start it. It is an ecclectic mix of what I thought would work the best for Ryland. One of the speakers was really motivating and got me thinking about why I homeschool and how long I want to do it and so forth and I realized the only reason I say we are taking it year by year is because of people reactions. We are homeschooling until God tells me to stop. So I need to stop worrying about how I compare to the public schools because his education is going to be different from the worlds education. He is still going to learn all of it, but because I am not teaching 30 students, I can tailor it to him. Right now he loves school and reading and learning but even next year, we are going to have way more fun with it because we can. We are continuing through the summer with math, science and writing. He is excited and Collin loves it too. We are going to "notebook" through "Flying creatures of the 5th Day" (just like Teddy Roosevelt and Lewis and Clark who we are learning about while we earn our biography patch!) So fun! That's the beauty of homeschooling. So far Collin is just going with it all, but when I ask him what he wants to do, it is always science. He loves magnifying glasses and exploring...I can't wait to see what he is going to be. I came home to all my men playing hard and not really missing me. Which was okay. It was a good manly bonding weekend full of fun and no rules and it was good for them to enjoy it and good for me to let them. I am slowly learning my way is not the only way.
